Choosing a photo to print

By

Almost any photo taken on a phone in recent years prints beautifully at frame size. What matters is that you send the original and that the faces are sharp. A minute of checking before you order is enough.

Send the original

Upload the photo straight from your phone or camera. Screenshots and copies saved from WhatsApp, Facebook, or a text message are shrunk along the way, and they print soft even when they look fine on a screen. If someone else took the picture, ask them to email it at full size or send it by AirDrop.

Check the eyes

Zoom in until the faces fill your screen. If the eyes look clear and you can make out the eyelashes, the photo is sharp enough. A soft background is fine. A blurred face will show in print.

Favor daylight

Photos taken outdoors or near a window hold the most detail and the truest skin tones. Very dark photos turn grainy when printed, and a harsh flash can flatten a face. If you are choosing between two similar pictures, pick the one taken in better light.

Leave a little room

Some space around heads and hands means nothing is hidden by the frame or the mat. If the shape of your photo differs from the print size, we send you a preview of the crop to approve before anything is printed.

Think about the size

When you upload your photo, the site tells you if it is too small for the size you chose, so you can pick a smaller one or send a sharper file.

If you’re unsure

Send it anyway. We look at every photo before it is printed, and if yours won’t hold up, we write to you first. The same picture can become a framed photograph or an illustrated portrait.
